As  Senior Edge & IoT Engineer you build (technical) products for our end users and engineers, with the specific focus on our Stores and Warehouses. These products are related to public cloud, edge computing and Internet-of-Things (IoT) technologies and serve initiatives like the AH Energy Transition, Store Operations modernization and DC Mechanization. The challenge for you and the team to solve, is how to engineer this at scale with for more than 1280+ stores and 20+ Distribution Centers (DCs) and Home Shopping Centers (HSCs).  

 

Following Inner-Sourcing principles, you will work with users and maintainers throughout the whole organization to fit your ideas into the bigger picture: Accelerate our product teams so that they can deliver quality customer value quickly and autonomously. 
  

This is how you will reinvent food retail  

Working for AH Technology means you like these kinds of challenges: we think big and work at scale. As an Engineer you understand how these technologies need to be realized in a complex environment this large. Together with your team you solve technical challenges with a true engineering mindset. Specifically, you will together with the team: 

 

  • Build platforms based on cloud-native principles in our Store and DC infrastructure 

  • Build and configure IoT platforms to enable smart connected Stores and DCs 

  • Integrate and manage Store and DC IoT devices with our IoT platforms 

  • Work on products such as our AH Energy Platform and other products in the area of Edge and IoT. 

  • Integrate with central cloud components in our (Azure) public cloud, e.g. observability, security, API management, event streaming, data platforms, etc.   

  • Use infrastructure-as-code and configuration-as-code to build fully automated components in our infrastructure: both in our public cloud(s) and decentral edge infrastructure 

  • Deploy and configure DevOps tooling to enable CI/CD in our Store and DC edge environments 

  • Deploy and configure Observability tooling (components) and configuration to enable E2E critical chain observability 

  • Create technical architectures and solution designs of Edge and IoT solutions in close collaboration with architects 

  • Help in crafting proofs of concept, participate in automated solution development, uphold security and quality, and learn from best practices 

  • Share your knowledge and participate in projects within the product cluster and broader AH Technology Platform; 

  • Engage in ongoing learning and contribute to updates in key practices 

  

Is this you? 

To become successful as our new Edge & IoT Engineer  you bring:  

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a technical or engineering direction 

  • 5 years+ experience as IoT, Cloud, DevOps, or Backend engineer working in a complex (corporate) technology environment 

  • Willing to occasionally travel to our DCs for project related work or troubleshooting 

  • Technical knowledge and experience with backend development 

  • Technical knowledge and experience with API engineering 

  • Technical knowledge and experience with working in an event driven architecture and specifically with Kafka or MQTT 

  • Technical knowledge and experience with IoT platforms 

  • Technical knowledge of networks and network security 

  • Technical knowledge and experience in the development of cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes based platforms and/or containerized systems 

  • Technical knowledge and experience of configuration of DevOps tooling, e.g. GitHub, ArgoCD, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry 

  • Technical knowledge and experience of Infrastructure-as-Code and Config-as-Code, e.g. Ansible, Terraform, Pulumi, CDK 

  • Strong communicator in English and preferably in Dutch

  • An annual salary of up to €108k (including holiday allowance & bonus), depending on your seniority based on a full-time workweek.
