As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will help in advancement of AH tech landscape into a modern cutting-edge technology landscape.  

You will be joining our Assortment and Space area in Retail Business Platform execution cluster. Teams within assortment areas are responsible for the placement of the items in the store, both on the shelf and on the store. RBP Assortment and Space team build core applications and services which create and expose this information to online and store platforms within Albert Heijn. All this while ensuring 24*7 uptime in mission critical environments. So, your work will have a great impact on the daily lives of our customers.

 

This is how you will reinvent food retail. 

  • Help in advancement of our current tech landscape by contributing to technical architecture, technical standards and guidelines. 
  • Move initiatives forward and be involved on critical projects
  • Develop technical solutions in a modern innovative tech foundation to scale our ever-growing core business.
  • Develop proofs of concept, build code, implement and execute automated testing, ensure security and code quality, develop best practices and execute automated testing.
  • Share your expertise and contribute to initiatives and your product cluster and the broader AH Retail Technology Platform.
  • Be a valued team member, that contributes and removes obstacles.
  • Coach and guide the engineers in your team technically and process wise.

 

As senior Engineer with lead experience, you are technically responsible for the work of your product team. Your team develops and supports multiple applications delivering one or more capabilities for our brands in The Netherlands.

  

Your team and office:

You will be joining the Retail Business platform cluster, Assortment area, working closely together with other DevSecOps engineers in the team, solution consultant, and the product owner. Our teams work in a hybrid way: both from home as well as in the office. We are next to the train station in Zaandam. 

As a senior with lead experience, you will participate in creating the technical design, provide technical leadership, mentoring the team alongwith sharing your experience. You are expected to spend a majority of your time on hands-on delivery as well as code reviews. You are expected to ensure technical quality as well as speed of delivery of the team in our Agile Scrum cadence. In this role, you are also expected to work closely with Engineering Manager, Product Manager, Architects, and other stakeholders. Please note that Dutch is not mandatory for executing the role.

  • Has 12+ years of hands-on experience in the full software lifecycle development.
  • 6+ years of experience on relevant technology stack - Springboot, Java/Kotlin, Github Actions/Azure DevOps/Jenkins, Kubernetes/Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Mongo DB/Postgress DB (or any noSQL DB), event streaming and messaging platform (Kafka), Azure/AWS/GCP PaaS with critical eye on non-functional requirements such as scalability, maintainability and security
  • Knowledge of GraphQL is a plus
  • Has experience driving the technical landscape, solution design, implementation, operations, business alignments, prioritization, along with the team
  • Has experience working as a lead developer
  • Has good interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and motivate people; 
  • Already located in The Netherlands.
