You can apply for the traineeship again from 17 March!

Good news! The International Traineeship is back. You can apply from March 17 until April 3, 23:59. The traineeship will start on September 1, 2025.

Why choose the International Finance Traineeship?

Our financial household is the backbone of our organization. Our goal is rather straightforward: we take care of the finances – for the organization and our entire family of brands. We provide the financial expertise and valuable insights that drive the business performance at Ahold Delhaize and our brands all over the world.

Being active in the U.S., Indonesia and Europe, our financial challenges do not stop at country borders. The International Finance Traineeship is a 3-year development program in which you get the opportunity to start your finance career at Ahold Delhaize.

To become a seasoned finance professional, you will have three rotations within or between our different brands and countries. The program is built on three pillars: social and business development; technical and functional skills; and leadership development. You experience retail from the corporate side by having functional skills training and by working on finance related projects. Engaging in international assignments will prepare you in becoming Ahold Delhaize’s next future leader. We stimulate cross-functional learning by organizing learning sessions, together with fellow Trainees and other inspiring colleagues.

Are you eager to work with an energetic, diverse group of colleagues and do you take initiative in, responsibility for, and ownership of your work? Do you set the bar high and are you excited to start pioneering, and growing? And do you want to inspire people to eat and live better, for a healthier future for people and planet? Have a look below and find out what you can expect from our International Finance Traineeship.

experiences of our trainees

Victor Huurman
first-year rotation at Albert Heijn

During my first rotation of the International Finance Traineeship, I joined the Business Planning and Performance (BPP) team at Albert Heijn, where I worked on financial planning and analysis. My role focused on supporting business decisions through financial modeling, reporting, and scenario analysis. I collaborated closely with different departments to ensure accurate forecasting and drive strategic initiatives. What I found most interesting was the combination of finance and business strategy—translating numbers into actionable insights. I also gained valuable exposure to senior management discussions. A key challenge was navigating the complexity of a fast-paced retail environment, but this made the experience even more rewarding. This rotation provided a strong foundation in financial analysis and decision-making, which I now build on in my second international rotation at Alfa Beta Vassilopoulos.

Janne Smits
second-year rotation at Albert

Joining the real estate finance team at Albert in Prague as an international finance trainee, I focused mainly on investment proposals for new store openings. Each decision required collaboration across multiple teams, my team analyzed the financials (with a key focus on Return on Capital and Net Present Value), while colleagues assessed location potential, building conditions, in-store design, and marketing strategies. Besides, I worked on strengthening the financial planning and performance framework across our brands in Central Eastern Europe (CSE), primarily aligning financial results and forecasts. This improved cross-country collaboration and ensured well-informed decisions for successful strategic investments. Working in a different culture and collaborating across multiple CSE countries was an enriching experience, offering valuable insights into diverse ways of working and decision-making.
