get to know more about the Finance traineeship
During my first rotation of the International Finance Traineeship, I joined the Business Planning and Performance (BPP) team at Albert Heijn, where I worked on financial planning and analysis. My role focused on supporting business decisions through financial modeling, reporting, and scenario analysis. I collaborated closely with different departments to ensure accurate forecasting and drive strategic initiatives. What I found most interesting was the combination of finance and business strategy—translating numbers into actionable insights. I also gained valuable exposure to senior management discussions. A key challenge was navigating the complexity of a fast-paced retail environment, but this made the experience even more rewarding. This rotation provided a strong foundation in financial analysis and decision-making, which I now build on in my second international rotation at Alfa Beta Vassilopoulos.
Joining the real estate finance team at Albert in Prague as an international finance trainee, I focused mainly on investment proposals for new store openings. Each decision required collaboration across multiple teams, my team analyzed the financials (with a key focus on Return on Capital and Net Present Value), while colleagues assessed location potential, building conditions, in-store design, and marketing strategies. Besides, I worked on strengthening the financial planning and performance framework across our brands in Central Eastern Europe (CSE), primarily aligning financial results and forecasts. This improved cross-country collaboration and ensured well-informed decisions for successful strategic investments. Working in a different culture and collaborating across multiple CSE countries was an enriching experience, offering valuable insights into diverse ways of working and decision-making.
