As Specialist ESG Controller Albert Heijn, you’ll be responsible for periodical reporting and managing delivery of inputs for specific sustainability KPIs. As part of the ESG controlling team, you are responsible for the end-to-end reporting process of Albert Heijn. The Specialist ESG Controller ensures that the reporting is accurate and complete and ensures that reporting processes run smoothly by actively seeking improvement opportunities

The environmental, social and governance (ESG) area reflects business strategy, data creation, collection and reporting in all sustainability topics relevant for Ahold Delhaize. The Specialist ESG Controller at Ahold Delhaize is responsible for accurate and complete reporting of the ESG KPI’s and key performance indicators (KPIs) such as food waste, healthy sales, plastic packaging, and carbon emissions, among other topics.
ESG actuals reporting and performance management is a dynamic and growing topic in Ahold Delhaize. Due to new regulatory requirements and internal ambitions to improve reporting, there is a high level of change management. As ESG topics are getting more integrated into the core of our business practices, the reporting function is constantly developing.
For newly added KPIs, the Specialist ESG Controller sets reporting requirements and implements reporting processes in close collaboration with data teams, business process Improvement teams, and IT. The Specialist ESG Controller is also responsible for creating awareness about changing definitions and additional ESG KPI’s within the brands. This means in practice to be closely connected to the EU and Group ESG teams and reviewing the Accounting Manual update processes.
The Specialist ESG Controller is part of Business Service Finance (BSF) and will directly report to the EU ESG Reporting Manager. Their main stakeholders are Finance Business Planning & Performance (BPP), Business Process Improvement (BPI), Business controllers and Risk & Control (R&C) working on ESG, as well as Health & Sustainability (H&S) and other Business owners of ESG KPI’s.
The ESG Controller cooperates across multiple departments within the company, supports data gathering and ensures the proper application of organizational definitions.
 Key responsibilities of your roleÂ
Your role is highly diverse and encompasses various responsibilities. Here are the key ones:
- Oversee ESG data gathering processes and ensure consistency and quality of ESG data by reviewing under supervision of the Manager ESG Control
- Take responsibility for final data submission to the group and ensure timely, accurate and complete reporting
- Perform analytical reviews, such as variance analyses and trend comparisons
- Prepare internal reporting to local leadership and develop periodical reporting
- Collaborate with Analytics teams to build (Power BI) dashboards for ESG KPI’s
- Maintain proper audit evidence on reporting, deliver data to auditors, and implement key controls over reporting processes
- Continuously improve of ESG reporting
- Drive implementation for new reporting KPIs
- Deliver process documentation, such as narratives and flowcharts
- Ensure reporting structure and KPI ownership (e.g. data contribution and data validation roles in Enablon) are set up and executed
- Inform and explain the deadline and changes in reporting definitions based on GSO instructions

 RequirementsÂ
We think you’ll be best geared for success if you meet the following requirements:Â
- Have a MSc degree in finance/economics
- At least 4-5 years of relevant working experience in reporting and/or controlling function
- Experience with ESG is preferred
- Mature personality who can coordinate groups of stakeholders to ensure quality and efficiency of reporting improves
- Cooperative with strong negotiation skills
- Fluent in Dutch and English
- Strong presentation and analytical skills
