Your Purpose

Ahold Delhaize is looking for a SAP Basis Team Leader to lead SAP Basis operations across Europe and North America, managing a mixed delivery model consisting of internal senior SAP Basis engineers and external service partners.This role requires strong technical SAP Basis expertise combined with proven people and vendor leadership skills, within a complex global enterprise environment.

What you will focus on

  • Lead, coach, and coordinate a distributed SAP Basis team consisting of internal senior engineers and external partners
  • Act as the primary point of accountability for SAP Basis service delivery across EU and US landscapes
  • Ensure stable, secure, and high-performing SAP systems (ECC, S/4HANA, BW/4, MDG, GRC, Solution Manager, PO and Java Stack)
  • Manage and govern external vendors, including performance, SLAs, service quality, and cost efficiency
  • Plan and execute SAP upgrades, patching, migrations, and S/4HANA initiatives
  • Collaborate closely with Architecture, ABAP, Integration, Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and GRC teams
  • Drive incident, problem, and change management aligned with ITIL standards
  • Ensure compliance with security, audit, and regulatory requirements
  • Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and continuous improvement

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 7+ years of SAP Basis experience in large-scale, enterprise environments
  • Proven experience leading mixed teams (internal staff and external vendors/partners)
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of:
    • SAP NetWeaver & S/4HANA
    • SAP HANA Database
    • Linux/Unix operating systems
    • Monitoring, backup & recovery, performance tuning, HA
  • Experience supporting global SAP landscapes across multiple regions and time zones
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Experience with SAP on hyperscalers (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • SAP certifications (Basis, HANA)
  • Experience with automation, scripting, or DevOps practices
  • Background in retail, FMCG, or large multinational environments

Job interview(s)

When both parties would like to continue the conversation you will be invited for an online assessement, also known as pre-employment tests. The purpose of the test is helping hiring manager determine whether a candidate has the skills, work style, knowlegde of personality to succeed in a the role.
