Tax Accountant II
As a Tax Accountant II, you’ll play a critical role in supporting the organization’s corporate tax function. This role is designed for a mid-level professional with a strong foundation in tax compliance, provision, and audit support, who is ready to expand into a more strategic contributor. You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, assist in the preparation of income tax provisions, and support both tax planning and operational tax processes.

Key responsibilities of your role
Your role is highly diverse and encompasses various responsibilities. Here are the key ones:
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local income/franchise tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments
- Analyze and reconcile tax general ledger accounts on a monthly and quarterly basis
- Prepare quarterly and annual income tax provisions in compliance with ASC 740 (formerly FAS 109), and IFRS reporting standards
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts related to tax expenses and cash taxes
Tax Planning & Optimization
- Identify opportunities for tax credits, deductions, and other savings strategies; assist in their documentation and implementation
- Research and interpret changes in tax legislation and regulations and assist in applying those updates to internal processes
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess the tax impact of business transactions and advise accordingly
Audit Support & Risk Management
- Manage responses to federal and state audit inquiries, including the collection and analysis of supporting documentation
- Maintain clear and proactive communication with auditors and regulatory bodies to manage risk and ensure compliance
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control requirements and internal documentation standards
Process Efficiency & Operational Support
- Coordinate with external vendors on the preparation and filing of personal property tax returns and other outsourced filings
- Support the timely payment of tax liabilities and tracking of tax bills
- Drive process improvements, documentation updates, and automation opportunities within the tax function
- Assist in system implementations and upgrades impacting tax reporting and compliance
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with finance, legal, treasury, and accounting teams to align financial reporting, transactions, and controls
- Maintain effective communication and information sharing across departments, including retail and distribution operations

Requirements
We think you’ll be best geared for success if you meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–5 years of progressive corporate tax experience in public accounting or industry
- Strong understanding of U.S. federal and state income tax laws, ASC 740, and SOX compliance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and tax preparation software (e.g., Corptax, ONESOURCE, or similar)

Preferred Requirements:
- CPA or progress toward certification
- Experience with IFRS-based reporting and multinational entities
- Familiarity with tax research platforms (Checkpoint, Bloomberg BNA, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience with process automation or ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
