Are you a hands-on legal professional who enjoys working side by side with the business to spot risks early—and find practical, smart ways to manage them? Ahold Delhaize is looking for a Legal Counsel Technology with a focus on IT contracts to join our European Legal Technology team. This is your chance to grow your career in a dynamic, international retail organization at the forefront of digital change.

About Ahold Delhaize
We’re Ahold Delhaize, one of the world’s largest food retail groups and a leader in both supermarkets and e-commerce. Together with our 17 strong local retail brands in the United States, Europe and Indonesia, we make a meaningful difference in the lives of our brands’ customers, our people and the world around us. We offer a highly dynamic, international work environment in which our associates thrive.

Your new work environment
At Ahold Delhaize, we believe legal support is not just about drafting contracts—it’s about making sure the business understands where the risks are, how to manage them and how to move forward responsibly.

As Legal Counsel Technology, you’ll work closely with IT, business and sourcing teams. Your role is to make legal practical: not just reviewing agreements, but truly partnering with the business to ask the right questions, spot issues early and co-create solutions that work in the real world.

Key responsibilities of your role
As Legal Counsel Technology, your day-to-day work includes:

•    Advising on IT contracts—from SaaS, cloud services and software licensing to consulting, implementation and outsourcing deals.
•    Helping business teams understand risks in areas like liability, IP and vendor performance—and guiding them toward workable risk mitigation strategies.
•    Supporting contract negotiations by translating legal terms into clear, actionable advice and helping teams prepare, negotiate and close deals confidently.
•    Improving how we work, by contributing to templates, playbooks and practical guidance that help our stakeholders make better decisions faster.
•    Collaborating across functions and brands, learning from senior legal team members and sharing knowledge with peers across our European network.

In this role, you’ll have direct exposure to a wide range of deals, business models and technologies—and you’ll gain the experience to grow into a trusted legal business partner. At Ahold Delhaize, legal is not just about interpreting laws—it's about helping the business move forward. That means applying legal design thinking, embracing legaltech tools, improving process efficiency and making sure your voice is heard where it matters.

Requirements
We believe you’ll succeed in this role if you bring:

•    A Master of Law degree and 2–5 years of legal experience, ideally in IT contracting or commercial law—whether from a law firm, in-house role, or both.
•    Experience reviewing and negotiating IT contracts, strong drafting skilss and an interest in how business, technology and legal risk come together.
•    A collaborative mindset and the ability to make legal topics understandable and actionable for non-lawyers.
•    Fluency in English and Dutch, both written and spoken.
•    A pragmatic, curious and professional attitude—ready to ask questions, speak up and grow.

We also value your soft skills: the ability to connect, influence and translate legal advice into action. A positive, pragmatic mindset and a strong sense of ownership will help you thrive.

What’s in it for you?
Aside from what we ask of you in this role, we also have a great deal to offer you: plenty of growth opportunities and various cross-brand career options; flexible working hours; a hybrid working model (we ask you to spend at least 50% of your working time at the office); and the chance to drive meaningful change on a global scale. You can look forward to a good work-life balance, and the chance to work in an inclusive environment that wholeheartedly encourages growth and welcomes you just the way you are.

This role comes with a great deal of opportunity, responsibility and flexibility. You’ll find:

•    Plenty of growth opportunities and cross-brand career options
•    A hybrid working model (we ask that you work from the office at least 50% of the time)
•    A strong work-life balance in an inclusive, people-first culture

Plus:

•    A gross annual salary of €77.600.00 - €87.600.00 based on full-time employment
•    Attractive bonus opportunities
•    A first-rate pension plan
•    20 vacation days + the option to purchase 12.5 extra days from your flex budget
