How you can
make a difference

As a Medior backed Developer (Kotlin MongoDb) you will help rebuild our traditional tech (Oracle) into a modern innovative technology landscape, and to create new applications to help our colleagues in business.

Your new team and office
The Presentation & Space team is responsible for the systems Albert Heijn uses to determine how assortment is presented on shelves and how store floorplans are designed. The team consists of a mix of in-house and external developers. Your main focus will be the build of a new tool, that helps optimize our floorplans and ensures the best possible layout for every store. As this initiative starts from scratch, you will play a key role from the very beginning in shaping both the product and the technical direction. We are looking for someone who enjoys sharing knowledge and guiding less experienced Kotlin developers in their growth.

Our teams work in a hybrid way: both from home as well as in the office. We are next to the train station in Zaandam.

This is how you will reinvent food retail.

  • Help rebuild our traditional tech landscape and create new applications in a modern innovative tech foundation to scale our ever-growing core business.
  • Build code, implement, and execute automated testing, ensure security, code quality, and contribute to best practices and deployment.
  • Be a valued team member, that contributes and removes obstacles.
  • Integrate and expand our price management capacity.

What we offer
At Albert Heijn we aim to grow, and this is only possible if you grow along with us. As we work together to build our brand and your career, you can count on (based on 40 hours per week):

  • An annual salary up to 80K including holiday allowance and a flexible bonus.
  • 45 days of paid leave to enjoy your well-deserved holidays: 25,5 regular vacation days and 19,5 ADV days. Enjoy!
  • Flexible working hours;
  • Access to a challenging training curriculum – AH Tech Academy;
  • An excellent pension plan where we as an employer contribute 4,5 more than you as an employee;
  • A travel allowance or a NS-business card for traveling to and from Zaandam by train;
  • Attractive discounts on various insurance policies;
  • 10% staff discount on groceries in all Albert Heijn stores, to a maximum of €300 per year;
  • A free Mijn Albert Heijn Premium membership with many benefits;
  • A company laptop and telephone.

The recipe for maximum impact
We think it’s important to be part of a highly belonging team; a team where you can be yourself and feel safe, accepted and appreciated. For this job we are preferably looking for someone who brings diversity to our team, in the widest possible sense. Someone who is a great addition to our team by bringing other ideas to the table. Don’t check all the boxes? Don’t worry, we probably don’t either 😉. Don’t hesitate to apply if you think you are up for the challenge, we’re happy to have a look at your resume:

  • 5+ working with REST based services/microservices using Kotlin/Java + Spring boot.  If you don’t have Kotlin experience but Java experience, you can learn while working
  • You are a developer that takes care of code quality, own code testing, follow development principles, and help the team to not deviate from the guidelines
  • Bonus if you also have worked with MongoDB
  • Knowledge of REST, APIs, CI/CD and Cloud (Azure)
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Grafana and Prometheus is a plus
  • Familiar with Scrum/Agile methodology
  • An outstanding command of the English language
  • Hands-on experience with GenAI coding tools such as Claude Code and Copilot
  • 24/7 responsible for the application development & Ops and willing to participate on the standby schedule
