The Job

As Insurance Specialist, you report to the Director Global Insurance and support the planning and managing of Ahold Delhaize’s global insurance activities. You will be a key player managing Ahold Delhaize’s reinsurance captive in Switzerland. You do this in a manner consistent with the Company’s objectives to minimize the Total Cost of Risk.

 

Your primary responsibilities will be:

Insurance Portfolio Management:

  • Assist in the administration and management of the company’s global insurance programs.
  • Support the Director in the renewal process for various insurance programs, ensuring timely and accurate submissions and successful negotiations.
  • Coordinate with brokers, insurers, and internal stakeholders to gather the necessary information and documentation.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of insurance policies, certificates of insurance, and related documentation.

Risk Financing:

  • Analyze and evaluate risk financing options to optimize coverage and cost-efficiency.
  • Prepare and present recommendations on risk financing strategies to senior management.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures.

Captive Management:

  • Support the operations of the group’s reinsurance captive.
  • Assist preparing financial reports, regulatory filings, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with external and internal auditors, actuaries, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Monitor the performance of the captive reinsurance company and provide insights for improvement.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret insurance and risk management data.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for the Director and senior management.
  • Identify trends, potential risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with various internal departments and operating companies to identify and address insurance and risk management needs.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal clients and external partners, including brokers, insurers, and regulatory agencies.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you bring the following:

 

  • 4-6 years of professional experience in a similar role or with a broker, insurance company or similar corporate environment.
  • A master’s degree or equivalent in law, finance or economics. Insurance and risk management qualifications are a strong asset.
  • Strong analytical skills and are technology savvy. You analyze, understand, and improve business processes.
  • Team player with strong communications and stakeholder management skills.
  • You can negotiate with senior executives at insurance companies and service suppliers.
  • Open to occasional travel and fluency in English. Additional languages are a strong asset.
  • Experience with operational processes of a (captive) insurance or reinsurance company is preferred.

The department

Ahold Delhaize operates a centralized Treasury and Insurance team in Geneva, Switzerland for the global management of:

  • The insurance programs portfolio and risk financing solutions.
  • Cash, liquidity, and funding.
  • Foreign exchange, interest rate and commodity risks.
  • The Company’s capital structure and access to debt and equity capital markets.
  • Customer payment solutions and acquiring.
